Abstract

This production of 'As you like it' was developed with the Rose of Kingston in mind. The Rose is a modern re-creation of the Elizabethan Rose Theatre, the foundations of which were uncovered in 1989. The production explored how stage configuration brings out specific qualities in the writing (not merely episodic but counter pointed rather than disparate), and, since the Rose’s stage/audience relationship interestingly resembles that of the Theatre Royal Bath, shed light on continuity within English theatre design, which conventional history questions.
