Abstract
For Debussy, nature was at the same time a source of inspiration and a refuge from fellow human beings. Using the composer's own writings as a guide, the nature-related concept of arabesque in Debussy's music is explored, focusing on key works including "La mer" and the sonata for flute, viola and harp.
