Abstract
Introduction: Following an evaluation from third-year children’s student nurses of their community practice placement experiences, the data provided strong evidence to suggest the student nurses had not always benefitted from these placements. We developed a website accessible to students from any PC or mobile device to support learning in community practice placements. Method: An action research method was used to examine the children’s Nursing students’ thoughts regarding a draft website which aimed to enhance the students' experience when in community practice placements. Results: Themes identified were independent acquisition of knowledge, the design and mentor information. Clearly the students liked the idea of a website that was easy to access and the website met their needs. Discussion: Overall the children’s student nurses reported positive comments around the development of the community website. Future developments include increasing the number of community areas covered by the website and undertaking qualitative research into the mentors’ views of the website.
