Abstract

This public lecture explores the idea of addiction as an inter-disciplinary phenomenon—we are used to academic subjects or art forms that crossover and interact in complex ways, but how can we challenge our thinking about addiction if we move away from it as a concept unified around an individual misusing a substance, and towards a model of addiction which shows it to be active in myriad ways, even as promiscuous? In this presentation, the speaker uses lecture and demonstration to show how applied theatre practitioners might respond innovatively to help people recover from substance misuse by adopting a notion of addiction as intrinsically inter-disciplinary.
