Abstract
Health Promotion without a doubt is achieved successfully only through healthcare education. In order to provide healthcare education we must not only focus on the education of specific health issues but we must not ignore the management of healthcare. This presentation outlines the process of developing and delivery of the MSc in Healthcare Education and Management course for the UK and Russian Healthcare Professionals, to run concurrently in both countries. The project is sponsored by the British Council and is the only healthcare Bridge project! The course is open to graduates who work in the health care setting, but in Russia this mainly involves nurses and doctors. To make it relevant to the work place this course is dependent on the work-based learning. MSc in Healthcare Education and Management is by Learning Contract and is structured in 3 stages. The first two stages include: - taught modules and topics for work- based learning. In stage 3, the participants can either write a dissertation or an academic paper and 10K words reflective summary. All students will have a VIVA. The course utilises formal teaching strategies, e-learning and also small group sessions, which are student led. These sessions offer students opportunities for discussions, presentations and debates concerning the topics related to lectures. The emphasis is on health promotion and examples of good practice in community and in hospitals will be introduced by the students and evaluated by the group. The health promotion element is considered important and it is hoped that the students will utilise ideas discussed in small groups in their clinical practice. In conclusion the presentation reports on the initial student evaluations of the course.
