How does a scientific lay summary website help with diversity and inclusivity?

Budhan-Mills, Christine [Presenter] (2022) How does a scientific lay summary website help with diversity and inclusivity? (Webcast).

Abstract

The Collaborative Library’ allows for agreed users to create lay summaries of published scientific articles using different types of media, such as video, audio, infographic and written formats to support all types of learners. It will help anyone improve their understanding of them for free. This platform will help with making complicated scientific or academic jargon much easier to understand. It will also allow everyone to gain access to ‘bite-sized’ summaries of research without having to pay or subscribe to another service. What could be better than that! The Collaborative Library welcomes opportunities to decolonise content, which is all about creating an online space and resource for conversations among a global community to include and promote research from a diversity of cultures and areas of knowledge, rather simply Western ideas. This will help us to influence what is being shared and taught in education and in turn how we all view the world.
