They tuck you up your Mum and Dad

Davies, Rachel [Artist] (2013) They tuck you up your Mum and Dad.

Rachel Davies’ ambitious new work is an interactive film installation with live performance. ‘They Tuck You Up Your Mum and Dad’ (the title a nod to Philip Larkin’s famous poem) is a personal response to the thunderbolt of new parenthood and a desire to connect contemporary art with family life. For adults it’s a layered and cinematic experience which explores the complexities of family dependency and interdependency, how patterns of behaviour are mirrored and repeated – control, responsibility, anxiety and letting go. Using film installation and live action, Rachel’s narrative of a family’s interdependency is constructed from hundreds of different film shots, creating interconnecting stories from three generations of family life. The audience may or may not realize that aspects of their own physical behaviour will affect what is seen on the screen. For children it will present a space full of interactive possibilities.
