Abstract

The Public Health Department of the Royal Borough of Kingston commissioned the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education (HSCE) to review 8 existing services, identified and funded by the Public Health department, in terms of their accessibility and appropriateness for residents aged over 65 years from the perspectives of service users (Phase 1 of the tender). In the second phase of the project, designed to support service development, the commission required that the Faculty undertake interviews and focus groups with a broadly representative sample of older adults resident in the Borough to support service development. (Phase 2 of the tender). The Public Health Department required that the second phase of the study sought the participation of marginalised groups and addressed sensitive subjects (namely sexual health alcohol and substance abuse mental health and well-being income housing and health). The report presents the findings of Phase 1 and 2 of the review. Phase 3 of the project entailed the production of a guide to services to form part of Agenda News, published by Staywell and distributed to older borough residents, informed by the findings of Phases 1 and 2 of the review. This guide was distributed to 9000 people in the Royal Borough of Kingston and is available online on the Staywell website.
