Abstract

His first gig as a music critic was to review Wagner's The Ring of the Nibelung conducted by Gustav Mahler. Claude Debussy was his friend and he numbered Olivier Messiaen among his pupils. These days he's known only as the composer of The Sorcerer's Apprentice, but there's a lot to him than that. On the eve of his 150th birthday, meet Paul Dukas. Andrew Ford talks to Helen Julia Minors from Kingston University, London- Head of Dept of Music in the School of Performance and Screen Studies.
