Abstract

The Centre for the Historical Record has been commissioned by the British Red Cross to transcribe digitised records of members of the Voluntary Aid Detachment of the British Red Cross during World War I. There are 250,000 individual file cards which will be transcribed into a searchable database creating a valuable resource both for family historians and for historians of the First World War, particularly the home front. The project is funded by Heritage Lottery Fund.
