Abstract

Taking the metaphor of mapping forward, this paper presented recent chartings, research developed as part of a wider project tracing the overlaps between experimental sound-making and independent film and video practices in London during the1970s – a time when artists and musicians pushed mediums and blurred the intermedial boundaries between artforms. The starting point for this 15 minute paper was an exploration of the intersections between two London-based collectively organised groups during the late-1970s – the London Musicians Collective and London Film-makers’ Co-operative, who shared the same address in Gloucester Avenue in Camden. Though distinct, each coalition of practitioners inhabited overlapping spaces, geographies that were physical, social, artistic and critical, and that connect to different sites and artistic practices across London.
