Starting with Merleau-Ponty's analysis of Phantom Limbs and Phantom Pains in Phenomenology of Perception we move to the studies of the same phenomena in current neuroscience, and cognitive philosophy, particulary that of Saun Gallagher. The two approaches seem incompatible in the first place, because of two different conceptions of the body schema. In the end, the article shows that a discussion between the two points of view is possible.
